THE GENERATIONAL RESET

Sources and References Register

A complete record of the institutions, publications, and data sources cited across all pillars

PURPOSE This document lists every institution, publication, and dataset cited across the pillars of The Generational Reset. It is a companion to the Gaps Register. Where the Gaps Register records what the project does not yet know, this document records where its evidence comes from. Every significant claim in the project should be traceable to an entry here. Readers who wish to verify, challenge, or extend any argument are encouraged to consult the primary sources directly. If a source is wrong or a better one exists, the forum is the mechanism to say so.

How to Read This Register

Sources are grouped by pillar document. Within each pillar, entries are listed in order of first citation. The three columns record the institution producing the source, the specific publication or dataset, and how it is used in the argument.

Where the same institution appears across multiple pillars — OECD, ONS, OBR, Resolution Foundation — those are the organisations doing the most consistent and reliable comparative work on the UK. Their methodology is not infallible, and where their figures are contested or subject to revision, that is noted in the Gaps Register.

This register was accurate at the date of writing (2026). Some figures will have been updated in subsequent releases. The Gaps Register records where figures are most time-sensitive. The project updates documents when better data becomes available.

The following institutions are cited across multiple pillars and form the evidential backbone of the project.

Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR) — Independent UK fiscal watchdog. Primary source for deficit projections, debt trajectory, welfare trends, and Brexit GDP impact. Cited in: S1_00, S1_01, S1_03, S1_07, S3_04, S4_02, S4_04.

Office for National Statistics (ONS) — National statistics agency. Primary source for economic data, demographic data, trade data, household income and wealth, and housing. Cited across every section.

HM Treasury / HMRC — Primary source for tax receipts, reliefs, IHT statistics, and public expenditure. Cited in: S1_00, S3_01, S3_02, S3_04, S4_04.

A Note on Method

The project applies a consistent standard: a claim is included only if it can be sourced to a named, verifiable publication. Where that standard has not been met — where a figure is widely cited but not precisely sourced, or where the primary source has been updated since drafting — the Gaps Register records the gap explicitly.

Sources cited here include government departments, independent regulators, parliamentary bodies, international organisations, and academic research. No source is preferred because its conclusions are convenient. Where sources conflict, both are noted and the conflict is examined in the relevant pillar or Gaps Register entry.

KEY POINT
This register is not a bibliography in the academic sense. It is a transparency mechanism. Every source listed here is publicly accessible. If you believe a source has been misread, misapplied, or superseded by better data, use the forum. Evidence updates the documents. Assertion does not.
