THE GENERATIONAL RESET
Foreword — Why This Exists, and What I Bring to It
I spent my career in tech, including close to the cutting edge of AI, and it made me wealthy — in years when I earned the most, I paid, by far, the lowest percentage of it in tax. I have two kids doing genuinely worthwhile things with their lives who, on current numbers, will never be able to buy a home and live the way their grandparents did. That gap isn't about effort. It's structural, and I don't think anyone built it on purpose — but I also don't think it fixes itself.
I believe every child, wherever they start, should have the same potential to achieve. That's not the society we have today. Where you're born, what your parents earn, and what school you end up in still shape your odds far more than what you're capable of — and I don't think that's controversial to say, even if what to do about it is genuinely hard. That belief runs under most of what's on this site, whether the pillar in front of you is education, housing, or tax.
I'm not neutral. I have a worldview, and it shapes what's here. I'd rather say that plainly than pretend otherwise.
People sometimes ask why I'm not in politics myself. The honest answer is I don't want power. What I want is for power to move back toward the people it's supposed to serve.
On being wrong
Every person on this planet is wrong about something. I'm not going to pretend everything on this site is correct — I can assure you it isn't. What matters is whether the system corrects itself when it's shown to be wrong. That's the actual principle behind this project: a shared evidence base that people can challenge with data, that updates when better evidence turns up, and that builds toward a common understanding of where things actually stand — not a final verdict handed down once.
In time, I want this handed over to the community that uses it, once there's a way to make sure it can't be quietly captured or corrupted once it is.
On why this might matter
The more people engage, challenge, and add to this, the more it becomes something that could actually change the outcome. A million drops make an ocean. This is ours.
You will disagree with plenty of what's here. That's fine — it's meant to be argued with, not agreed with. But if you live in Britain, I don't think you and I actually disagree on the goal: a fairer country, and a better future for the people who come after us. If we can agree on that much, and simply see the path there differently, that's already a real starting point.
